nbview

nbview counters

How many notebooks have been opened, how many comparisons shown, and how many embeds loaded on this deployment. One number per event, and nothing kept per visit.

Counters are not configured on this deployment. The viewer still sends its one word and this endpoint answers, but it records nothing, so every total here is zero.

EventCountSent when
open0a notebook is rendered in the viewer
compare0a comparison between two notebooks is shown
embed0a notebook is opened inside an embed

Each count is one request from one viewer, and that is everything it holds: no address, no user agent, no notebook, no repository, no cookie, no timestamp. Counter storage has no atomic increment, so two events in the same instant can land as one, and these totals are a floor rather than an exact tally.

A browser that sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control is not counted at all, and a notebook opened with JavaScript off sends nothing. The privacy note covers the rest of what the site keeps and what it sends.

To read the same numbers from a script, ask for JSON: /count?format=json returns {"enabled":true,"totals":{"open":0,"compare":0,"embed":0}} with the real figures.

Private repos

To open notebooks from private repos, use a fine-grained token with Contents: Read-only access to those repos. A classic token with no scopes works for public repos and raises the folder-browsing limit.

Folder browsing allows 60 requests an hour without a token and 5,000 with one; opening public notebooks does not use that limit. The token is stored in this browser only and sent only to api.github.com. The privacy page lists everything nbview keeps.

Compare

Compare at with another version of it, or with a different notebook.

Embed this notebook

Paste this into any page that allows iframes. The notebook is fetched and drawn by the reader’s browser, so nothing is uploaded, and the frame always shows the latest version of the file.
